The flywheel is different.Got out my operators manual yesterday and set up my 350 by the book. The manual says to start with the mower on "level" ground. The bottom of the mower frame should be 8" to 10" off the ground. I used the take-up links on the 3 point hitch to adjust the height. Used the 350 today and no more problem with grass "bunching up" under the frame.
Will a John Deere 350 sickle mower work with an International 986? To hook it up, beside the 3 point hitch, there is one more connector, a pin that goes thru the drawbar. I have to move the drawbar to the left, then put the pin in. This pin has 2 chains that connect to a bar on the mower. You raise it to 10 inches off the ground first.

HP wise a sickle bar doesn't take much. A 9' bar probably wouldn't take more than 10 or 12 hp to run. They just don't take much. You're more than covered as far as horsepower. You aren't talking a great deal of weight in the cutter bar either.
